Scion is a Crown Research Institute dedicated to improving the competiveness of New Zealand’s forest industry.
To enable trade in wood products exporters must undertake phytosanitary treatments to meet the requirements of our trading partners. The majority of our wood product exports must be fumigated to meet the importing country requirements.
Scion is currently leading a comprehensive research programme in collaboration with Plant and Food Research, the University of Canterbury and Bayesian Intelligence, aimed at finding acceptable and sustainable alternatives to methyl bromide that demonstrate New Zealand’s commitment to environmental sustainability into the future. The programme is co-funded by STIMBR.
